Keeping the body in tip top shape is a goal most of us try to strive for each day.
We eat right, try to keep stress down, and exercise all in attempts to stay happy and healthy.
However, there is one area of the body that most people unknowingly neglect when it comes to building overall health and strength.
That area is your gut (i.e., the small intestine).
The gut is the bodies prime defense against bacteria and bugs like the flu, fungus and parasites.
When the gut is not functioning properly and becomes weak, these bugs are free to enter the body and cause a variety of illnesses. No thank you!
Also, poor gut health can lead to something called leaky gut syndrome (it’s exactly how it sounds). The tiny holes in the gut which allow essential vitamins and minerals to enter the blood stream begin to widen and undigested food particles begin to leak into the body.
Not good!
This can cause food allergies and autoimmune issues where the body essentially begins to attack itself. The result of this “leakage” can we anything from skin disorders, chronic headaches, digestive issues, adrenal fatigue, etc.
So how does one keep the gut strong while repairing damage…
BONE BROTH!
Yes, I know it sounds weird but bone broth has been in our diet for years! My Auntie used to make her own and feed it to us regularly. Now, we where pretty healthy kids growing up. Could it be from the broth, possibly. However, I’m gonna say yes just for the bases of this article!
The thing that makes bone broth so “magical” is the abundance of gelatin that’s contained within each pot.
If you’ve every eaten jello, you know that it’s texture is kind of bouncy, mushy, and sticky. Just the right consistency for sliding into crevasses and patching up little holes.
That’s exactly how the gelatin from the bones in your bone broth help to fix leaky gut.
Bone broth can also assist in detoxification by aiding the liver (the master detox organ) and suppling it with glycine, an amino acid which helps to promote its detox function.
With bone broth, it’s win win.
You get a tasty, warm drink to sooth your soul during the cold season while healing the body and repairing the gut! Can’t beat that!
