If you follow me on my Facebook page, you know that I’ve decided to take the month of February off and not log in to my account. However, I will still be posting videos and newsletters through an external social media site (Hootsuite).
So why this decision?
Well, I’m at a point in my life where I need to concentrate on slowing down, healing my body, and focus on more self love and spiritual growth.
Facebook was a hugh distraction and often lead to A LOT of wasted time and energy which took me away from those things.
I always felt a sense of urgency, mindlessness, and superficial connections.
Instead of reading, spending time with my partner Austin, going for walks in nature, playing my piano, or simply just breathing and reflecting on the day, I would be….ON FACEBOOK!
All of the above mentioned activities are some of my FAVORITE things to do and they were being ignored so I can update my status, check for new “likes”, and browse other pages. It all just seemed a little too silly so I decided to take a break.
In no way am I blaming Mark Zuckerberg and all of his peeps over at Facebook for this dilemma. I take full responsibility of my actions and realize that I need to take a step back from the black hole of social media for a while.
We often look at our lives and say things like,”Oh, I don’t have the time for that” or “I don’t have that kinda of money”.
However, when we notice where our time, energy, and finances are being spend, we often realize that we DO have enough, we just haven’t prioritized them well.
Right now, that most important thing for me is to heal, develop strong, meaningful relationships (with people in the flesh), slow my life down and strengthen my spiritual practice.
These are the things that will bring genuine happiness to my life so they deserve the most attention.
Take a moment and reflect on your life.
Are there areas that need a little more TLC at this time? Perhaps your health, relationships, spirituality, nutrition, etc.
What can you do to devote more time to these things?
Commit to a month of focusing and realigning your priorities in order to regain your health and strengthen your relationships.
Keep me posted my friend! All the best!
